In the video clip at right, Bobby talks about picking up some old New Zealand editions of his albums from a second-hand shop in Carterton, before proceeding to autograph my very first LP, which my parents bought for me during their visit to Holland in 1977.
I was glad I had remembered to bring along this album with me on the night. Bobby was amazed when I showed it to him as he'd never seen this particular album cover before. The Dutch had obviously decided it would sell better if they replaced his photo with that of a scantily clad girl!
I was delighted to finally meet up with famous UK pianist and entertainer Bobby Crush recently during his New Zealand tour as Liberace. It was in 1977 that my parents bought me my very first LP, an album of popular hits by Bobby Crush, who by then was already a famous pianist even in his teens. From then on Bobby's playing style had a significant influence on my own, and I still employ his distinctive and entertaining style in some songs when performing today. It was a great pleasure to finally meet the artist whose recordings influenced my playing more than 30 years ago.
